Terms of use

Last updated October 21, 2026

These are the rules for using Cahier. By using it you agree to them. If you are under 18, please read them with a parent or guardian.

Who you're agreeing with

Cahier is run by [Legal owner: the parent's name or the LLC's name, to be filled in]. "We" and "us" mean them.

Who can use Cahier

  • You must be 13 or older.
  • If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission. A parent is responsible for any purchase.
  • Teachers must be adults using Cahier for their own classes.

Your account

  • One person per account. Don't share it.
  • Keep your email and Google account safe; anyone who can read your email can sign in.
  • Class codes are for joining your own class only.
  • You can delete your account at any time on the Account page.

Use it fairly

Please don't:

  • upload other people's personal information (crop out names, faces and grades when you can);
  • upload tests, quizzes or answer keys you are not allowed to share;
  • use Cahier to cheat on graded work;
  • try to make the AI produce harmful, hateful or inappropriate content, or get around its limits;
  • scrape, copy or overload Cahier, or try to get into other people's accounts or data;
  • harass anyone, including through reports.

We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.

What you upload

  • It stays yours. You keep whatever rights you have in your handouts and notes.
  • You let us use it to run Cahier. You give us permission to store, copy and process your uploads only to build and show your study units, and to delete them on our schedule (see the privacy policy). This permission ends when the files are deleted.
  • Teacher materials belong to someone. Handouts are often owned by the teacher, the school or a textbook publisher. Upload only material you have permission to use for your own study. Song lyrics, textbook pages and news articles are the riskiest.
  • Share links are for your class or study group, not for posting publicly.
  • If someone believes their work was uploaded without permission, they can send us a notice on the copyright page. We hide the unit while we look into it, and we close the accounts of people who repeatedly upload others' work.

AI-made questions

The questions are written by AI and checked by our code and a second AI, but they can still be wrong. They are not your teacher's answer key, and using Cahier doesn't guarantee any grade. If a question looks wrong, tap "Report this item". Read more on the How we use AI page.

Paid plans, cancelling and refunds

Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout; the total shows before you pay.

  • Free: 1 unit, ever, from up to 6 pages of handouts. No card needed.
  • Monthly: $4.99 a month, up to 10 units a month.
  • Yearly: $29.99 a year, up to 10 units a month.
  • Test week pass: $2.99 once, for 14 days from payment and up to 3 units. It does not renew.
  • Teacher yearly: $79.00 a year, per teacher account. Each teacher account is approved by hand before it can make classes or buy the plan.

A unit made from more than 15 pages counts as 2. A build that fails doesn't count.

Who you pay. Lemon Squeezy sells the plans for us as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, shows on the card statement, sends the receipt and handles sales tax. Its buyer terms also apply to your purchase. Students under 18 don't pay themselves: a parent or guardian pays from the link the student sends them.

Renewing and cancelling. The monthly, yearly and teacher plans renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time with Manage billing on the Billing page (a parent uses Manage billing on their parent link), or with the link in the Lemon Squeezy receipt email. The plan stays on until the end of the period already paid and then doesn't renew. Cancelling doesn't refund the rest of a period that's already paid, except under the refund rules below.

If a payment fails. The plan stays on until the end of the period already paid, the student sees a note on the Billing page, and the payer gets an email asking them to update the card in Manage billing. If the payment still hasn't gone through when that period ends, the account goes back to the free plan until it does.

When a plan ends. Nothing is deleted. Your units and progress stay, and you can keep studying them; what stops is building new units beyond the free plan (and, for teachers, making new classes).

Refunds. If you're not happy, email us within 14 days of a charge and we'll refund it in full. A parent or guardian who didn't approve a purchase made by their child gets a full refund, any time, on request. Refunds go back to the original payment method through Lemon Squeezy. The same rules apply to the teacher plan. A refunded test week pass ends when the refund goes through, and we cancel a refunded subscription so it doesn't charge again.

Schools and districts

If a school or district signs a separate data agreement with us, that agreement wins wherever it differs from these terms.

Disclaimers and limits

We work hard to keep Cahier running and correct, but it is provided "as is". We can't promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, such as a lower grade, from using Cahier. Nothing here limits rights you have by law as a consumer. [Lawyer: adjust for minors and consumers.]

Ending

You can stop using Cahier and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law or safety stops us.

Governing law

[Placeholder: these terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA. Dispute process to be decided with the lawyer; arbitration clauses with minors are risky.]

Changes

We will tell you in the app or by email before an important change to these terms applies.
